1st Grade Writing Class

Welcome to the 1st Grade Writing Course! This class follows the 1st Grade Writing Common Core standards. It’s perfect for 6 and 7 year old students, and even younger ones who can write simple sentences. Older students can also join to review and strengthen their writing skills.

In each class, we’ll have a short lesson focusing on a specific skill, like punctuation or telling a story in order. We’ll practice together as a group and then you’ll get prompts to practice independently. I’ll be there to help you every step of the way. At the end, we’ll share our work and what we’ve learned.

Here are some skills we’ll be working on:

– Writing how-to reports
– Adding details to make our descriptions better
– Using good topic sentences and closing sentences
– Talking about the future
– Writing invitations and commands
– Summarizing stories
– Sharing our opinions
– Writing complete sentences
– Telling stories in order
– Using periods, question marks, and exclamation points

You can join the class at any time because each lesson focuses on a specific skill. We’ll cover all the skills every 3-4 months. If you need extra help or practice with any skill, I’ll be here to guide you individually.
